GSA to ‘quadruple' in size to centralize procurement across the government

Body

Article by Natalie Alms, Staff Reporter, Nextgov/FCW, on consolidating domestic Federal procurement in the General Services Administration [see Executive Order 14240, March 20, 2025].

Natalie's article provides interesting background on this transition, including this: "Already, GSA has piloted onboarding two to three agencies “to see what procurement would look like being onboarded at GSA,” Gruenbaum said. Federal News Network first reported this pilot."

And its impact on the GSA and OPM workforce: "The Office of Management and Budget is being onboarded now, a source familiar told Nextgov/FCW, as is the Office of Personnel Management, which laid off its entire procurement team last month." "The change comes as the agency [GSA] continues to dramatically downsize its workforce, eliminating entire offices in the process."

Adding additional elements, Natalie shares future developments in the near future on the use of AI to "reduce headcount" at GSA and an overhaul of FedRAMP.

This article is an excellent primer on understanding a quickly moving landscape. Well worth the read.
