Position Responsibilities
The Student Support and Advocacy Center at George Mason University is seeking a part-time wage employee to assist with the administration of the Stay Mason Student Support Fund and Financial Well-Being events and special projects. The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following tasks:
- Assist with the daily administration of the Stay Mason Student Support Fund, including processing of documentation submitted by students and handling email communications to and from students;
- Maintain records of student cases, including uploading information to database and assisting in case workflow;
- Gather, review, and compile resources to aid in assisting students with particular personal and academic needs;
- Review, revise, and create office forms and processes to aid in the handling of student cases;
- Assist with marketing and educational outreach to the Mason community, including workshops and presentations;
- Create material needed for financial literacy programs geared to the Mason community and participate in financial well-being presentations; and
- Manage marketing material and website design for the financial well-being website as well as social media postings.
This position may also provide an opportunity for the individual to manage a small case load of students with respect to financial well-being who are served by the office.
Required Skills/Qualifications
- Must be able to honor the confidentiality of issues addressed by the office;
- Must be able to work in a high-paced environment and have the flexibility to address occasional interruptions;
- Must have an ability to relate to individuals from diverse backgrounds;
- Must be detail-oriented and able to multi-task;
- Must be familiar with operating a PC or Mac and have the ability to easily learn and adjust to various software programs; and
- Must be willing to collaborate with staff, various departments, faculty, and administrators.
Preference will be given to Mason student applicants, especially those seeking graduate degrees.
Time Commitment
- This position does require work during spring term, summer term, and hopefully through fall term;
- The position is designed for an up-to-29 hours per week work commitment. A work week is defined as Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm; however, the position may require an occasional evening workshop attendance and support and an occasion weekend participation in presentations and workshops.
