The Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) Office of Inspector General (OIG) has re-posted an internship opportunity after making a change to the original announcement. 

The incumbent serves as an intern in the FMC Office of the Inspector General (OIG) Pathways Program. The purpose of this position is to provide a formalized, intern training program involving the practical application of professional auditing/accounting principles, procedures, processes, regulations, and reference materials. Assignments will be configured to build training experiences to provide a solid foundation to prepare the incumbent for an audit position.

As a Student Trainee (Auditor)you will:

  • Perform the non-complex procedures and tasks or assists senior team members in completing complex assignment procedures involved in conducting an audit or other tasks.
  • Perform research based on instruction to help gather background information about the program and relevant criteria.
  • Review documents provided by or prepared by program officials to ascertain accuracy and completeness of information provided and/or to test compliance with program controls.
  • Perform data analysis to organize data, identify trends, and otherwise interpret results.
  • Help prepare written summaries of procedures performed, including documenting summaries of meetings held with FMC officials and other individuals.
  • Prepare documentation to support work performed, including findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Attend meetings with program officials, OIG management, and other individuals in the accomplishment of the OIG mission.
  • Maintain professional competency through continuing professional education (CPE), ensuring government-related CPE requirements are met.
  • Build fundamental knowledge about FMC programs, and the OIG operations, practices, and professional standards.
  • Keep supervisor frequently and regularly informed of job activities.
  • Consult with the Inspector General (IG) to adjust plans and priorities to accommodate changing situations.
