Position Time Commitment:

  • 16-24 hours per week
  • August 15 to December 16 – Start and end dates are FLEXIBLE.

Position Description:

The Institute for Sustainable Development (ISD) is seeking a thoughtful and motivated Business Development and Fundraising Intern for our highly competitive and educational internship. The mission of ISD is to catalyze resilience so that communities can thrive long-term and to build a more resilient future for all. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on promoting entrepreneurship and innovation in the context of advancing the global Blue and Green Economy.

This will include industry and market research, economic forecasting, monitoring and evaluating of entrepreneurial and innovative initiatives, and supporting ISD’s research and analysis of how the Blue Economy and Green Economy will evolve, generate jobs, and create economic and environmental benefits.

The candidate will also be responsible for supporting ISD’s business development and fundraising efforts on its own behalf.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with nonprofit management, business planning, pricing, and promotion
  • Research and programmatic support related to the categories listed above and more, including: targeted industry and sector research, cluster formation analysis; benchmark, market, and audience studies; competitive analyses; sales, marketing, and financial options; also includes assisting with written memos, reports, and other deliverables critical to the success of ISD research projects
  • Develop stakeholder maps and support stakeholder engagement and relationship-building
  • Consolidate, develop, and improve ISD’s investors database in an organized and standardized way, including: research, identify, list, and track investors, clients, and collaborators who are relevant to ISD’s program of work; support communication, engagement, and relationship-building with investors to increase ISD’s network and available opportunities
  • Develop pitches, presentations, and other materials needed to attract investors, customers, and other stakeholders for current and upcoming ISD projects
  • Support virtual and in-person ISD events, workshops, training sessions, and seminars by providing logistics, staffing, and other support as needed
  • Assist with conducting in-person and virtual interviews and surveys
  • Support ISD staff by providing operational and administrative assistance as requested

Having a can-do, team orientation is essential. All ISD staff, interns, and fellows are expected to support meetings, develop and maintain ISD contacts and databases, support communications, and pitch in to help when disasters or other crises occur.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • University enrollment in a Business or Economics major/program
  • Previous professional or academic research experience
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications
  • Willingness to learn other online platforms and programs critical for the success of the goals and responsibilities listed above
